親愛なるPIXARスタッフの皆さま 私は6歳の息子と3歳の娘、そして昨年生まれた5ヶ月になる息子を持つ、日本の父親です。 子供たちと同様・・・いや子供たち以上に貴社の作品が大好きです。 さて、今日メールを差し上げたのは、ちょっとイジワルな質問があったからです。 こんなイジワルな質問をするのに、わざわざ日本からメールを寄こさなくてもいいのに・・・とお思いかも知れませんが、お時間が許せば聞いてください。 先日、うちで「A BUG'S LIFE」のビデオテープを購入させていただきました。 「A BUG'S LIFE」は、もちろん充分に楽しめましたが、子供たちがとくに興味を示したのは、巻末に収録されていた「GERI'S GAME WON THE OSCAR」でした。 「A BUG'S LIFE」のエンディングのNG集を観て「ここまで、やるか」と腹を抱えて笑った後、静かにはじまった「GERI'S GAME WON THE OSCAR」は、3Dアニメーションの可能性をさらに高めた秀作だと関心いたしました。 イジワルな質問というのは「GERI'S GAME WON THE OSCAR」のラストシーンで、ゲームボードを180度回転させた時に、確かにテーブルの上にあったチェスの駒とチェスの箱は、テーブルの下に落ちたはずなのに、その後でカメラがバックしていくと、テーブルの下には何も落ちていないという点です。 こういう細かい点の指摘は、ひょっとするとイヤというほど受けていらっしゃるかも知れませんが・・・。 私は「GERI'S GAME WON THE OSCAR」を繰り返し見ている6歳の息子に対し、この点について、このような話をしました。 「たんに作品を楽しもうとするだけなら、こんな細かいところに気づく必要はないけれど、お前がもしこういう作品を作る側にまわりたいと考えるなら、こういう点にも気づかなければいれないよ」 息子はとりあえず納得はしているようでしたが、本当にこの言葉が正しいと言えるかどうか、実際に「GERI'S GAME WON THE OSCAR」を制作されたスタッフの方に、ぜひお尋ねしたくてメールを差し上げた次第です。 もし、何か別の意味や事情があって、あのシーンであえてテーブルの下に何も置かなかったのであれば、私はそのことを息子に説明したいと考えています。 お手数ですが、ご返事をいただけたら嬉しく思います。 ちなみに私の息子はiMacを使用しています。私はG3です。 子供たちだけお婆ちゃんに「TOY STORY2」を見に連れていってもらって悔しがっている日本の父より

At watching collection of NG of ending of [A BUG'S LIFE], we roared with laughter, finding it goes far up to the point never expected. Then [GERI'S GAME WON THE OSCAR] starts calmly and I am very impressed and found that it gives new possibility of 3D animation. Now I will explain the malicious question. The point is that at the last scene of [GERI'S GAME WON THE OSCAR], when the gameboard is turned 180 degree, chessmen and chessbox that are certainly placed on the table, nothing fallen is found when the camera moved backword. May I guess that you have already received notice from many people for such minute pointing out? I talked the following story to my son who is watching repeatedly [GERI'S GAME WON THE OSCAR]: "In case you only enjoy such kind of work, you need not notice such minute point, but if you are at the side of creating such works, you should aware of this point." It seems that my son understand me for the time being. Now my question is whether the answer that I have given to my son is correct. I hope that I pose the question direct to the staff who have actually created it. If by any other reason, nothig is placed under the table, I will again explain this to my son.
